The Staffing Challenge

The Buildings Are Going Up Faster Than the Teams to Run Them

The data center industry is experiencing the most aggressive expansion cycle in its history — driven by AI workloads, hyperscale cloud investment, and the Stargate Project's $500 billion infrastructure commitment. But construction is outpacing the workforce needed to staff, operate, and maintain these facilities.

Generalist recruiters miss the nuances of critical environment hiring. Data center roles — from high-voltage engineers to commissioning specialists — require deep sector knowledge, a pre-vetted candidate network, and a recruiter who understands that a wrong hire in a 24/7 mission-critical facility is not just an inconvenience — it's a risk.

FAQ

Data Center Recruiting Questions

Common questions from data center operators, hyperscale developers, and colocation investors about working with PCR. Still have questions? Call us at (404) 236-9523.

How quickly can PCR fill a data center role?
For most data center roles, PCR delivers an initial shortlist within 5–10 business days. For highly specialized roles — commissioning specialists, high-voltage engineers, liquid cooling experts — timelines may extend to 14–21 days due to the limited candidate pool. We will always give you a realistic timeline upfront, never an optimistic one that forces you to wait for a second search.
Do you recruit for both construction and operations phases?
Yes — PCR recruits across the full facility lifecycle. During the build phase we focus on MEP engineers, commissioning specialists, construction project managers, and skilled trades. Once a facility goes live, we shift to critical facilities managers, shift operations technicians, network engineers, security specialists, and AI infrastructure roles. Many clients engage us for both phases under a single RPO engagement.
Can PCR handle high-volume hiring for a hyperscale campus?
Absolutely. PCR's RPO model is purpose-built for high-volume engagements. We've staffed large-scale buildouts requiring simultaneous hiring across construction, engineering, operations, IT, and security functions. Our team scales to match your volume without sacrificing the screening rigor that mission-critical environments demand. Contact us to discuss a custom RPO proposal for your campus.
How does PCR find passive candidates in such a competitive market?
The most valuable data center talent is rarely on the job boards — they're employed, being recruited constantly, and only move for the right opportunity presented the right way. PCR uses direct outreach, industry network relationships, and compensation benchmarking to approach passive candidates confidentially and compellingly. Our pre-vetted pipeline in key markets like Atlanta, Northern Virginia, and Phoenix means we're not starting from zero on day one of your search.
What salary ranges should I expect for data center talent in 2025?
Data center engineering roles now command $84,000–$196,000, with senior engineers reaching $240,000+. Power electronics and high-voltage specialists command $150,000–$250,000 as companies compete for scarce talent. Labor premiums are 15–20% above pre-2022 levels, and 42% of operators have lost key staff to competitors offering 15–25% salary increases. PCR provides compensation benchmarking as part of every search engagement so you enter the market competitively from day one.
Does PCR work with colocation providers, not just hyperscalers?
Yes — PCR works with the full spectrum of data center operators: hyperscale cloud providers, colocation operators, enterprise data centers, edge deployment networks, and AI-first infrastructure startups. Whether you're operating a 100 MW hyperscale campus or a 5 MW regional colo, the talent challenges are real and our approach adapts to your scale, timeline, and budget.

Data Center Recruiting & Staffing in North Las Vegas, Nevada

PCR Hire recruits the mission-critical talent that powers North Las Vegas, Nevada data centers, from facility technicians and critical environment specialists to electrical, mechanical, and operations leadership. We track the fast-growing NV data center market and source candidates with the certifications, uptime discipline, and security awareness these facilities demand. As hyperscale and colocation growth accelerates around North Las Vegas, PCR helps operators staff and scale critical infrastructure with confidence.

  • North Las Vegas has a confirmed data-center presence, led by Flexential and Novva, with additional major development interest concentrated around Apex Industrial Park. Novva operates a 100 MW facility with its own 100 MW substation, while Flexential operates an established colocation facility. Switch and Novva have also acquired large parcels in Apex, but those acquisitions should not be represented as approved or operating data-center campuses without additional confirmation. The market's underlying attractions include large industrial land holdings, planned NV Energy transmission and substation infrastructure, access to long-haul fiber, Nevada's data-center tax abatements and proximity to the broader Las Vegas metropolitan workforce.
  • For hiring managers, the most relevant recruiting categories are electrical and critical-facilities technicians, HVAC and mechanical technicians, controls and building-automation specialists, network and data-center technicians, physical-security personnel and construction/commissioning professionals. North Las Vegas benefits from a nearby technical workforce pipeline through the College of Southern Nevada, including HVAC, Critical Systems, Building Automation, electrical, electronics, networking and cybersecurity training. CSN's recent hands-on visit to Google's Henderson data center also shows that data-center-specific exposure is already being incorporated into Southern Nevada's technical education ecosystem.

Data Center Operators in North Las Vegas

  • Flexential — Confirmed — Flexential operates its Las Vegas - North data center at 3330 E. Lone Mountain Road in North Las Vegas. Flexential describes the facility as having more than 111,000 square feet and supporting colocation, cloud, connectivity and disaster-recovery services.
  • Novva Data Centers — Confirmed — Novva operates its Las Vegas data center at 6115 Nicco Way in the North Las Vegas area. Novva describes the facility as a 100 MW, approximately 246,000-square-foot facility with an on-site 100 MW owner substation, waterless cooling and 24/7 on-site staffing. Novva separately identifies North Las Vegas as one of its completed data-center locations.
  • Switch — Confirmed in the North Las Vegas market, with a new Apex site acquired — Switch operates the large Core campus in the Las Vegas market. In 2025, Switch purchased 176 acres in North Las Vegas's Apex Industrial Park. Public reporting confirms the land acquisition, but the City said at the time that it had not received plans or applications for the Switch parcels. Therefore, the Apex property should be described as a confirmed Switch acquisition and potential future development site, not as an operating or approved Switch data center.
  • Novva Data Centers — Confirmed additional land acquisition; development status unconfirmed — Novva purchased nearly 205 acres in Apex Industrial Park in North Las Vegas in August 2025. The land purchase is confirmed by local reporting and property records, but public sources reviewed do not establish an approved data-center project, facility count or capacity on that particular parcel. Novva already operates a North Las Vegas facility elsewhere.

Why North Las Vegas is a Data Center Market

  • Large industrial land supply at Apex: Apex Industrial Park is a major North Las Vegas industrial area. NV Energy has described Apex as an area with substantial available land and significant potential for industrial and commercial development, while noting that much of the Las Vegas Valley is already built out or constrained by limited developable land. The City of North Las Vegas has reported approximately 5,000 acres of developable land within the roughly 18,000-acre Apex area.
  • NV Energy transmission and substation planning: NV Energy has specifically planned electrical infrastructure for the Apex area because of anticipated large loads, including data centers. Its planning documents describe a proposed 230-kV loop with multiple substations that can be phased in as large loads materialize. NV Energy reported that several potential loads ranging from 15 MW to hundreds of megawatts had inquired about service in the area.
  • Existing high-capacity data-center infrastructure: North Las Vegas already has established mission-critical facilities. Novva's facility has a dedicated 100 MW owner substation and waterless cooling, while Flexential operates an established colocation facility with more than 111,000 square feet. Existing infrastructure reduces the need to establish an entirely new data-center ecosystem from zero.
  • Nevada data-center tax abatements: Nevada provides a specific Data Center Tax Abatement program through the Governor's Office of Economic Development. Qualifying data-center companies can receive sales and use tax abatements on qualified capital equipment and personal-property tax abatements. GOED states that qualifying projects may receive sales/use tax reductions to as low as 2% for up to 10 or 20 years and personal-property tax abatements of up to 75%, subject to investment, employment, wage and other requirements.
  • No Nevada personal state income tax: Nevada has no individual state income tax. This is a broader business and workforce-location advantage rather than a data-center-specific incentive. Nevada's economic-development materials also identify the absence of several other state-level business taxes.
  • Connectivity: Novva states that its North Las Vegas facility has access to major long-haul fiber routes and multiple Tier-1 fiber providers. Flexential's North Las Vegas facility provides colocation, cloud and connectivity services. These facilities demonstrate that carrier connectivity is already established in the North Las Vegas market.
  • Proximity to Las Vegas: North Las Vegas is directly part of the Las Vegas metropolitan area, giving operators access to the region's existing technology, construction, facilities and operations workforce while providing substantially more industrial land than the denser portions of the valley.
  • Climate and cooling: North Las Vegas has a hot, arid desert climate. The climate creates significant summer cooling requirements, but Novva has specifically selected waterless cooling for its North Las Vegas facility. Its facility uses ambient-air cooling and reports a 5,310-ton air-cooled mechanical system. ([NOVVA Data Centers][2])
  • Low disaster exposure relative to many markets: Novva identifies the Las Vegas location as having relatively low geographic disaster risk. Switch likewise markets its Las Vegas campus as being in a region with a low incidence of natural disasters. These are operator assessments and should be treated as relative site-selection considerations rather than a claim that North Las Vegas has no natural hazards.

Roles We Recruit For Here

  • Electrical and critical-facilities technicians
  • Mechanical, HVAC and cooling
  • Controls, BMS and automation
  • Network and data-center operations
  • Physical security
  • Construction and commissioning
  • Electrical, mechanical/HVAC, controls and experienced critical-facilities technicians are the strongest candidates for difficult-to-fill categories. This is a qualitative inference based on the specialized infrastructure, desert cooling requirements and technical training needed for these positions. No reliable North Las Vegas-specific occupation-by-occupation shortage percentage was identified, so a numerical labor-shortage claim should not be made.

Local Workforce Pipeline

  • College of Southern Nevada: The College of Southern Nevada has a North Las Vegas campus at 3200 East Cheyenne Avenue. The campus offers Computing and Information Technology programs, including Cisco-related training. CSN is therefore a geographically direct source for IT and network-oriented data-center recruiting.
  • College of Southern Nevada - Air Conditioning Technology: CSN offers Air Conditioning Technology programs including AAS degrees and certificates in Building Automation, Central Plant and Critical Systems. The program provides hands-on HVAC/R training and is directly relevant to mechanical, cooling and controls recruiting.

  • CSN - Data-center exposure: In June 2026, CSN students and faculty visited Google's Henderson data center and worked alongside Google data-center technicians, including hands-on server-building activities. Although the facility is in Henderson rather than North Las Vegas, the event demonstrates an existing Southern Nevada connection between community-college training and data-center operations.
  • CSN - workforce development: CSN's Division of Workforce and Economic Development works directly with Southern Nevada employers to design and implement customized training programs. This is potentially useful for data-center operators that need employer-specific technician training.
  • Nellis Air Force Base: Nellis Air Force Base is located in the Las Vegas area and CSN maintains a Nellis AFB center. Military backgrounds in electrical power, HVAC, electronics, communications, aircraft maintenance and facilities operations can provide transferable skills for data-center technical positions.
  • Advanced manufacturing and skilled trades: CSN offers Advanced Manufacturing, Automation, HVAC, Building Automation, Critical Systems and other technical programs. These provide potential pipelines for controls, automation, mechanical and facilities positions.
